You want the wax to be warm enough to be easy to work with, but not so cool that it barely coats the pine cone. You do not need to soak the pine cones during this process. Four to Five full sprays should be more than enough to create a good strong scent. Once you have sprayed the mix, finish by sealing up the bag tightly.

Another method to make them is to add cinnamon oil to water and then spray the cones with that water and let them rest for a few weeks. I found that they didn’t smell as strongly that way. Bake the pine cones for around 30 minutes at 200°F (93°C) to reduce moisture and promote opening. After baking, allow them to cool and, if necessary, soak in warm water before letting them air dry in a space with good ventilation until completely open and dry. How to bake pine cones for crafting? Before working with fresh pine cones, it’s critical to remove any unwanted problems. Pests, mold, and disease have plenty of places to hide in a pine cone’s scales. While they’re generally not an issue if you plan to mulch, compost, or otherwise use your pine cones in the garden, you won’t want them around when you’re doing crafts projects in the home. Whenever I’m wandering through the woods, I always have a basket or a mesh bag with me. There’s rarely a time when the forest doesn’t provide me with some treat to eat or useful objects. Prepare your work space by covering it with newspaper or parchment paper. This protects the area from drips of fragrance oil.Bake them - Line your baking sheet with aluminum foil, then spread the pine cones evenly over the top. Bake them at 200°F for 30 minutes to kill any bacteria or bugs, and further dry them. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely. Sometimes, what you need is a glass of red wine and a glue gun after the kids have gone to bed. I’ve got a few of those types of crafts lined up for you as well.

These DIY scented pine cones are the perfect addition to any fall or winter table scape or holiday display. Making scented pine cones smell again is easy. All you need to do is add your desired amount of essential oils, and then let them sit in the bag until they have the intensity you want. You can reuse and re-scent the same ones year after year. Are scented pine cones safe? I don't have children but the delivery of my Thymes Frasier Fir essential oil was one of the best days of my life. That and the day I stalked Ikea until I stole all the information I needed to make an Ikea hot dog at home myself. Frasier Fir Essential Oil When it’s time for dinner, let everyone know where they will be sitting with these natural place card holders. Use them just as they are, or make them more festive with sprigs of berries, glitter, or metallic paint. Attach a ribbon to one end, and your guests can take home their place card holder and hang it on their Christmas tree. 9. Mini Pine Cone Christmas Trees Make up a bunch of these miniature Christmas trees and add them to holiday vignettes around your home.Leave nature outside– Yes we’re bringing some nature inside, but that doesn’t mean we’re inviting all of the bugs and mess in along with it. Use a soft bristle brush to lightly dust off any visible dirt, debris, and insects before bringing them into the house. The scent will fade, so if you notice that after a few weeks, just repeat the process of adding some oil and sealing them up for a bit. Add a few drops of cinnamon essential oil to the melted wax until it smells the way you want it too. Step 6
