Description

As with all laxatives, Galpharm Constipation Relief 5mg Tablets should not be taken on a continuous daily basis for more than five days without investigating the cause of constipation. In particular tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take anyof the following medicines: Loperamide is also available combined with simeticone. Simeticone is used to treat farting (flatulence or wind). Taking these medicines together helps if you have diarrhoea with painful stomach cramps and bloating. If you have IBS, which has previously been diagnosed by a doctor, but you notice any of the following new symptoms: feeling dizzy – if loperamide makes you feel dizzy when you stand up, try getting up very slowly or stay sitting down until you feel better. If you begin to feel dizzy, lie down so that you do not faint, then sit until you feel better. Avoid driving, cycling, or using tools or machines if you feel dizzy.

Please note that these tablets relieve the symptoms of diarrhoea only and should not be used as a substitute for rehydration treatment.

Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding as small amounts of the medicine mayget into your milk. Talk to your doctor about asuitable treatment. Allergic skin reactions such as itchy, red, raised rash (which can sometimes be severe and include peeling, swelling, blistering and lesions of the skin)

If a doctor prescribes loperamide for your child, they will use their weight or age to work out the right dose. The dose also depends on their symptoms. What if I forget to take it? Do not take this product for anything other than its intended use (see section 1) and never take more than the recommended amount (see section 3). Serious heart problems (symptoms of which include fast or irregular heartbeat) have been reported in patients who have taken too much loperamide, the active ingredient in this medicine.

Talk to your pharmacist before taking this medicine if you are taking any other medicines, particularly the following: you have acute dysentery, the symptoms of which may include blood in your stools and a high temperature, Age 12 to 17 years with IBS or long-lasting diarrhoea – follow the instructions from their doctor. This is given on prescription only. Adults and children of 12 years and over with short term diarrhoea: 2 tablets to start with. After that, take 1 tablet after each loose bowel movement. Do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24 hours. Don’t take for more than 48 hours.

Liquid: this comes with a measuring cup, plastic syringe or spoon to help you measure the right dose. If you do not have one, ask your pharmacist. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not give the right amount of medicine. Dosage and strength There have been isolated reports of abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea occurring after taking Bisacodyl. Some cases have been shown to be associated with colonic mucosal ischaemia. Intestinal loss of fluids can promote dehydration. Symptoms may include thirst and oliguria. In patients suffering from fluid loss where dehydration may be harmful (e.g. renal insufficiency, elderly patients) bisacodyl should be discontinued and only be restarted under medical supervision. Obstruction of the bowel, dilation of the bowel, paralysis (non movement) of the bowel muscles which may stop bowel movements capsules or tablets: take 2 capsules or tablets, taken immediately.
