Although you can get duvets in almost any tog rating, the most common togs are 4.5 tog which makes a great summer duvet weight, 10.5 tog which tends to be the best bet for autumn and spring, and 13.5 tog which offers good winter warmth. Don't buy it if: your priority right now is affordability or ease of care. Although we think it's well worth investing in the great night's sleep it offers, there's no denying the price is prohibitive, and this duvet is dry clean only.

The dimensions put it somewhere between a single and double duvet which is a good size, but there’s no choice of weights. And while it’s a nice, premium fabric, it doesn’t have the cosy, snuggly feeling that you get from some of the other blankets.

Buy it if: you're looking for luxury as well as warmth. No duvet fill feels quite as sumptuous as down, and this Soak & Sleep Hungarian goose-down option is one of the best quality we've come across. It's super warm yet lightweight, drapes beautifully on the bed, and feels super luxurious – you'll instantly feel like your bedding has levelled up. The all-seasons option also offers brilliant versatility; use the 4.5 and 9.0 duvets separately in warmer seasons and combine to create 13.5 togs of winter warmth. As an interesting fact, if you are looking for interesting facts around duvets, is that the TOG Rating was developed by the Shirley Institute in Manchester, founded in 1920 as the British Cotton Association Research Institute.

The general rule is to start with a weighted blanket that is about 10 per cent of your body weight, says Henderson. “So, someone of 11 stone, 154lbs, would use a blanket with a weight of around 15lbs. This is recommended only as a guide; preferred weights can vary between 5 per cent to 12 per cent of a person’s weight. The most common recommendation is that a weighted blanket should be around 10% of your body weight. However, this varies from person to person and you must feel comfortable under the blanket. It’s important that you feel relaxed but not too constricted. You should be able to move around easily if you need to. Size: Blankets are available in a wide range of sizes, from tiny baby blankets to huge blankets meant to drape over a king size bed. Throw blanket sizes are ideal for both cozying up on the sofa and for one person in bed, while larger sizes can be awkward outside of the bed but are the best choice for couples in search of warmth. So, what is a duvet? On a basic level, a duvet is a quilted blanket filled with a natural or synthetic filling — such as down or down-alternative — that is protected by an interchangeable cover. Unlike a comforter, its unique pillow-like structure traps heat without weighing you down. Another solution is to opt for an 'all-season' duvet. This consists of two separate lighter tog duvets that can be joined together (usually by way of press studs) to make a warmer winter duvet. Most commonly an all-season duvet will include a 4.5 tog and 9 tog duvet that can create a 13.5 tog duvet once combined, or a 4.5 tog and 10.5 tog duvet that will create a warmer 15 tog combination.Lastly, duvet covers help protect your duvet from rips, stains, and general wear. While you still need to wash your duvet, you can do it less often because of the cover. For the washable blankets she machine washed them as per the care instructions to see how they fared in the washing machine and how easy they were to get dry afterwards. Weighted blankets use gentle pressure to promote a sense of calm and relaxation and reduce feelings of anxiety. “The pressure of the weight stimulation from a weighted blanket can have a soothing, calming effect on the body, which is then relayed to the mind through the power of the mind-body connection,” says Nichola Henderson, a holistic life, self-development coach and wellness specialist. Lastly, cost will inevitably come into your decision making process. Some weighted blankets have very high RRPs but we regularly see them discounted, so if there’s a pricey one that takes your fancy, it’s always worth a look to see if it’s on sale. How we tested the best weighted blankets

Loft: Loft measures the height of pillowy blankets such as comforters and duvets. While loft height is primarily a personal preference, blankets with a higher loft tend to be warmer and more durable than ones with a lower loft. How about a king size duvet to keep you comfy? From a 15-tog duvet to keep you cosy to a 10.5-tog duvet ideal for warmer weather, we offer a range of togs, filling, and sizes. Our duvet covers are soft and available in a wide range of options. Whether you want sumptuous velvet covers for a classy feel or you’re a fan of a fluffy duvet, we have plenty of options. Oh, did we mention they’re practical to take care of and maintain as well? It’s up to you – some people like to replace their duvet with a weighted blanket, whereas others like layering them both, particularly during the colder months. If the sizes match up, you can also use a duvet cover on your weighted blanket, to keep it clean. We were also thrilled with the quality for the price because weighted blankets aren’t always the most budget-friendly buys. But the blyss is an excellent value-for-money investment that is brilliant for use in bed and for getting cosy during the day while working from home or evenings in front of your favourite Netflix series. The blanket also comes with a drawstring dust bag to keep it fresh while it’s not being used. We’ll explain how to choose the best materials for you below, including what goes inside the cotton duvet cover. The Pros and Cons of a DuvetThe Silentnight Wellbeing weighted blanket is the budget choice on paper, but in practice it’s comparable to most others on the list, which makes it a great buy. It’s a large blanket available in two weights, both very reasonably priced. If you don’t know the difference between a quilt and a throw, or a duvet and comforter, you’re not alone. Blankets are one of the oldest forms of bedding, so it’s no surprise that history has given us such a wide range of options.
